"Football also has its place in Toulon": the new forecourt of the Bon Rencontre stadium inaugurated this Saturday

"Football also has its place in Toulon": the new forecourt of the Bon Rencontre stadium inaugurated this Saturday

The crowds were packed this Saturday morning at Bon Rencontre. Supporters, politicians, and former stars gathered for a festive triple event.

Not only was there the inauguration of the new forecourt, the "Esplanade Délio Onnis" plaque, but also the "Jean-Louis Bérenguier" jersey room.

And the result is magnificent with the #SCTOULON written in Azure and Gold capital letters.

"Football also has its place in Toulon. The 18,000 spectators who turned out to play AS Monaco in 1985 prove it. This day pays tribute to a legendary, endearing, and resilient club that has always managed to bounce back. Here, we embrace a cause. I thank the current leaders for their in-depth work," explained Toulon Mayor Josée Massi.

Eric Borghini, president of the Mediterranean League, followed suit from the podium. "Toulon has a special spirit, commitment, and convictions. There's no doubt that with such values, the club won't stay in the second division for long."

90 worn jerseys to discover

Former goalscorer Délio Onnis, who scored 299 goals in the first division at the time, recalled that the one against AJ Auxerre in a 1-0 victory remained his best memory because this achievement had triggered many positive things for the club.

The Claude Joye Collection

The final word goes to Claude Joye, the majority shareholder, who donated his own collection of SC Toulon jerseys to furnish the Jean-Louis Bérenguier room, the man who played 429 matches in the Toulon jersey.

"With this esplanade we wanted to create a friendly place where people can take photos. The room with ninety jerseys worn is a link between the different generations and I thank all the former players present today. From now on, we have to move up in sporting terms. Josée Massi is someone reliable and dynamic whose support is essential," he concludes.

After a visit to the museum and a meal at the Lido, guests were invited to come and support the national team in the afternoon. Toulon then faced Nîmes in the 4th round of the N2.

A lovely way to end a wonderful day dedicated to the history of SC Toulon.
